Hayward School of Dimensional Sign Making // About Us
In June of 2003, Michael Bloomquist (the inventor of the Grain Fraim™ and the author of the Sign·Foam® How-to Handbook, “Mastering the Art of Dimensional Signmaking”) and his wife, Mary purchased a classic “Northwoods” five cabin resort on beautiful Callahan Lake near Hayward, Wisconsin. Much work has been done to make the resort a perfect setting in which to host a series of sign making workshops. The first workshops were held in May of 2006 and continue today, focusing on the materials, tools and techniques used to design and fabricate outstanding dimensional signs.
Mike and Mary, along with Mike's business partner, John Weidner, formerly operated a custom sign company in Delavan, WI for 15 years. Over their time in the sign business, they developed many tools and techniques used widely in the sign industry today.
Mike and his good friend, Joe Scienski (Sign·Arts Products Corp., the makers of Sign·Foam®) have presented countless distributor- sponsored seminars across the country, receiving rave reviews. Mike has expanded these 4 hour seminars into highly informative 4 day hands-on workshops. The workshops are held in a 30' x 45' building set up as a prototypical sign shop, complete with the tools and equipment necessary to produce any dimensional sign project imaginable. Set on a 10 acre wooded lot, only 89' from the water's edge, it's hard to imagine a spot more conducive to the learning process.
Since 2006, Mike and Mary have enjoyed providing instruction to many students from all over the country and some from outside the USA. Some of the workshop attendees have been in the sign business for many years and already make dimensional signs. Others have vinyl and digital print shops and are interested in adding dimensional signs to their list of products, and others are just getting started. No matter what level of experience, everyone that has taken the class has been extremely satisfied with the amount of knowledge gained and has come away with a boat load of time and cost saving ideas.
Join Mike and Mary for their next workshop.
